Clinical psychology students are at a significant disadvantage when applying to externships, internships and postdoctoral fellowships. The number of students vastly outnumbers the amount of training sites. Training clinical students is not only rewarding, but it can be an excellent business model as well.
What you can gain from creating a training program:
Offer a sliding scale fee in order to help your community and have your practice earn more income
Offer more hours that your practice can be in operation since you have more clinicians
Stay up to date about recent literature and empirically supported interventions by having a student in the practice
Create a larger network of professionals
Offer more diverse services based upon your student’s area of expertise
About the Training Program
Dr. Davidson successfully established the Clinical Training Program at Behavioral Associates. Currently, the program hosts a mix of 6 postdoctoral fellows, clinical externs and social work interns. In addition to seeing a case load of 15-30 clients each, each member of the training program participates in the Community Clinic, an initiative that provides Neuropsychological Testing to community members at an affordable rate.
